Oak Ridge National Laboratory ORNL is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory managed for the U.S. Department of Energy by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation. Scientists and engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen the nation's leadership in key areas of science; increase the availability of clean, abundant energy; restore and protect the environment; and contribute to national security.
Office of Energy Outreach (OEO) OEO's mission is to develop national and international programs that provide technical assistance to a wide range of energy users and renewable energy and energy efficiency industries. The Office mobilizes the resources of public and private sector organizations in order to enhance the role of U.S. energy technologies in the world marketplace and provide technical assistance and information to energy users and their intermediaries (governments, trade and professional associations) to increase the use of renewable and energy efficient technologies.
Oil as a Finite Resource: When Is Global Production Likely to Peak? Fossil fuels -- oil, natural gas, and coal -- account for the vast bulk of global energy supply. These fuels, formed over millions of years, are finite and non-renewable. In due course, they will become scarce and costly, requiring the introduction of replacement energy sources.
Oil Supply Prospects Prospects for oil production have been analysed by region, paying particular attention to the distinction between OPEC Middle East and all other producers. Account has been taken of estimates of conventional oil reserves and the production profiles for oil in each region.

Power Shock: The Next Energy Revolution Even as biotechnology and computer technology change at a revolutionary pace, the world's decade-old oil-and coal-based energy systems seem immutable. Developments around the world, however, may soon produce the most dramatic changes in the world energy economy in a century.

Radioactive Waste Policy This year, the nuclear industry is lobbying Congress to force a high-level nuclear waste dump upon the state of Nevada. The industry is backing legislation that would slash environmental standards, preempt state and local laws, and begin the largest nuclear waste transportation project in history. Public Citizen's Critical Mass Energy Project is a member of the Nuclear Waste Citizens Coalition that opposes the industry's efforts.
RADNET Information about source points of anthropogenic radioactivity. A Freedom of Nuclear Information Resource. An information resource for persons interested in the public safety consequences and radioecological impact of nuclear accidents and industries.
Rocky Mountain Institute Rocky Mountain Institute is a nonprofit research and educational foundation with a vision across boundaries. Its mission is to foster the efficient and sustainable use of resources as a path to global security.
Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Sandia supports the Department of Energy's mission objectives in national defense, energy security, environmental integrity, and economic competitiveness through a strong base in science and technology.

Studies of the Environmental Costs of Energy A discussion of the general structure and purpose of environmental cost studies. A summary of the history and quantitative conclusions of a selected group of studies. And, a comparison and contrast of the selected studies in an effort to identify similarities and differences.
Summary of Energy and the U.S. Economy: A Biophysical Perspective Between the mid-1940s and the early 1970s, the U.S. economy showed generally good performance. Since 1973, however, performance indicators such as labor productivity, inflation, and growth rates have been relatively disappointing, and mainstream economic models can not entirely explain this shift and its underlying causes. A theoretical perspective that recognizes the importance of natural resources, especially fuel energy, may help; some economic problems can be understood more clearly by explicitly accounting for the physical constraints imposed on economic production.
Summary of the IEA World Energy Model The primary objective of the IEA long term World Energy Model is to serve as the basic analytical tool for constructing the scenarios that comprise the long term global energy outlook of the IEA. The main outputs of the World Energy Model are regional energy balances as these allow the underlying trends in energy demand, supply, trade and security of supply to be analysed. Secondary objectives include the analysis of the environmental impact of energy use and sensitivity analysis of policy action, technological change and resource availability. A further important objective of the World Energy Model is that the energy projections obtained from it should be fully compatible with the historical Energy and Price data collected by the Energy Statistics Division of the IEA. Consequently, all of the energy and price data used in constructing the World Energy Model has been taken directly from the IEA's Statistical Publications. The structure and design of the model have, to a large extent, been determined by these objectives in conjunction with available resources.
