Energy Information, Products, and Programs Home Page The purpose of this world wide web site is to provide a consolidated and integrated home page for the Department of Energy Offices comprising the "Energy Cluster." The Energy Cluster consists of the following offices: Energy Efficiency Fossil Energy, and Nuclear Energy. At this site you will find energy data, analysis products, information on energy technology, energy efficiency, outreach programs, links to the home pages of the individual Energy Cluster offices, points of contact, links to related sites, and a submission form for suggestions.

Energy Information Sheets Information sheets for a variety of fossil and renewable energy topics.

Energy Innovations: A Prosperous Path to a Clean Environment The Energy Innovations study analyzes a balanced national strategy that can put the United States on an innovative, prosperous path leading to an economically and environmentally sustainable energy future. This Innovation Path is marked by a set of programs and policies that would guide our economy toward lower cost, less polluting, more secure, and more sustainable ways of producing and using energy. The approach involves setting fair performance standards, creating incentives, providing better information, and reducing transaction costs in order to foster investments in clean and efficient technologies. Policy packages tailored to each economic sector would provide the push to get us onto the Innovation Path.

Energy Policy Group The Energy Policy Group is a research group of the Department of Informatics in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens consisting of a number of members each on a specific field of expertise, aiming towards the elaboration of studies in the energy policy sector by exploiting to their full extend the benefits of modern information technologies.

Energy Resources Center (ERC) The Energy Resources Center (ERC) is a University of Illinois at Chicago interdisciplinary research and public service organization. It was established in 1973 by the University’s Board of Trustees to conduct studies in the field of energy and to provide local, state, and federal governments and the public with current information and advice on energy technology and policy. The Center’s professional research staff has been drawn from a variety of university disciplines. For almost two decades the Energy Resources Center has worked with local, state, and federal governmental agencies, national laboratories, legislative commissions, energy industries, public utilities, and public interest groups on a broad range of projects. Specific areas of expertise include energy conservation, public service, energy technologies evaluation, energy education and professional training.

Energy Science and Technology Software Center The Energy Science and Technology Software Center (ESTSC) serves as a repository for and the source from which to purchase software funded by the Department of Energy and/or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The collection also contains selected software obtained from the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The Center's inventory is contained in a searchable database to help you locate software in which you may be interested.

Energy Sciences Network (ESNet) Today, over 20,000 scientists worldwide use dozens of unique DOE facilities and high performance computing resources. The Department of Energy is engaged in a continuing effort to make more effective use of these important national resources. Strategic DOE mission requirements cannot be met without the innovations the Energy Sciences Network provide.

Energy Sites to Visit on the Internet The California Energy Commission's links to organizations, groups, companies and individuals for a variety of energy-related topics.

Energy Storage Target As utility load factors have steadily decreased over the past 25 years, utility generation, transmission, and distribution assets have increasingly been underutilized. For energy storage to enhance utility system productivity, analytical methods are needed that can be used to dispatch energy storage resources most efficiently while reducing financial risks from supply-and-demand uncertainties, and integrating intermittent or nondispatchable power sources into a utility network. This Target will provide energy storage systems and planning tools to cost-effectively improve generation and transmission asset productivity by 15% and enhance the cost-effective integration of intermittent renewable and nondispatchable generation into the utility generation, transmission, and distribution network.

Energy Systems Analysis Research Programme Research on integrated assessments of energy, environment and economy in relation to long-term development and to the introduction of new energy technologies into complex energy systems.

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) The Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) is a program of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Our mission is to collect and exchange energy research and technology information, which we do through ETDE's Energy Database.

Energy-Wise News Energy-Wise News is a magazine published by New Zealand's Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA). It features news about developments in renewable energy, environmentally-friendly houses, new technologies, and practical hints and examples of how people are saving energy.

Energy Wise Options for State and Local Governments 2nd Edition By Michael Totten and Nita Settina Written with: Jack Gold, Thomas Gray, Katherine Tammaro. Energywise Options is a reference for the most innovative programs on the energy policy.

EnerNet Web The EnerNet Web site is produced by Energy NewsData, an energy information services and publishing company based in Seattle and San Francisco, with support by utility companies and energy industry organizations and agencies. EnerNet is an active and comprehensive guide to the energy industry in Western North America, with emphasis on the Northwest Power Pool area and special features focused on the four states that comprise the Pacific Northwest.

ENTRANCE ENTRANCE (ENergy savings in TRANsport through innovation in the Cities of Europe) is a targeted programme of Integrated Urban Traffic Management Systems, under the THERMIE programme of the European Commission, DG XVII. The overall purpose of ENTRANCE is to demonstrate integrated measures for improving public transport operations and use in European cities, resulting in energy savings, lower emissions levels and a better quality of life for city residents and visitors.

Environmental Energy Technologies Division More than one hundred EET Division researchers--physicists, engineers, chemists, architects, economists, computer scientists, life scientists, and others--conduct multidisciplinary research on energy and environmental topics to advance the efficient, environmentally acceptable use of energy. The Division's work benefits energy consumers, energy planners, and the scientific community.

EPRI energysearch Energysearch is the premier Internet search engine for the Energy Industry, providing Internet users with fast, accurate search results on global energy topics.

Estimated Ultimately Recoverable (EUR) Oil For many years geologists and oil companies have published estimates of the total amount of crude oil that will ultimately be recovered from the earth over all time. Remarkably, these assessments of Estimated Ultimately Recoverable (EUR) oil have varied little over the past half century.

Fast Facts About Fossil Fuels 90% of the energy we use in this country comes from fossil fuels. Aside from the environmental impacts of exploration and extraction of fossil fuels, their use causes such things as smog, acid rain, and contributes to global warming. Furthermore, the world's supply of fossil fuels is not limitless.

Federal Energy Technology Center (FETC) The Federal Energy Technology Center is federally owned and operated. Our mission is "We Solve National Energy and Environmental Problems." We perform, procure, and partner in technical research, development, and demonstration to advance technology into the commercial marketplace, thereby benefiting the environment, contributing to U.S. employment, and advancing the position of U.S. industries in the global market.

Federal Legislative Impacts This chapter describes Federal legislation that has had major impacts on the electric power industry. The inset below lists and summarizes the laws that have shaped the industry since the 1930s. The remainder of the chapter will focus on three Acts that have had profound effects on the industry's structure--the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935 (PUHCA), the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA), and the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT). The features of EPACT that led to FERC Orders 888 and 889 are discussed. (PUHCA and PURPA have recently been targeted for repeal. Chapter 6 will address the issues and arguments associated with the call for repeal, as well as current proposals for restructuring legislation that are before Congress.)

Federal Regulatory Agency (FERC) Home Page The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is an independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy which regulates many energy matters and oversees related environmental matters.
