SAVEnergy Program The SAVEnergy Program provides direct assistance to Federal agencies in identifying and implementing energy efficiency and water conservation measures. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) and Executive Order 12902 require that Federal agencies reduce the energy consumed in Federal buildings. The Executive Order increased the goal to a 30% reduction, compared with 1985, by 2005. In addition, agencies are required, to the maximum extent possible, to install all energy and water conservation measures with paybacks of less than 10 years.
Saving With ENERGY STAR A household that buys Energy Star labeled equipment (including appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and computers) instead of standard new equipment could prevent the release of 70,000 pounds of carbon dioxide over the lifetime of the products. That pollution savings is equivalent to taking a car off the road for 8 years. That same Energy Star equipped household can also cut, by nearly one-half, the release of nitrogen oxides, which are primary contributors to smog and acid rain.

School Energy Doctor Online The School Energy Doctor is a multimedia production designed to lead high school students through a water and energy audit of their school. It provides students with easy calculations to see how efficiency and renewable energy can save energy, water, and money as well as reduce pollution right at their own school.
Selecting a New Water Heater Many homeowners wait until their water heater fails before shopping for a replacement. Because they are in a hurry to regain their hot water supply, they are often unable to take the time to shop for the most energy-efficient unit for their specific needs. This is unfortunate, because the cost of purchasing and operating a water heater can vary greatly, depending on the type, brand, and model selected and on the quality of the installation. To avoid this scenario, you might want to do some research now-before you are faced with an emergency purchase. Familiarize yourself today with the options that will allow you to make an informed decision when the need to buy a new water heater arises.
Sierra Club Policy: Energy Conservation and Renewables This policy on Energy Conservation and Renewables has been adopted by the Sierra Club Board of Directors.
Smart Home
Energy Tips - A Guide to Making Energy-Smart Purchases
If you feel that energy bills
are taking a big chunk of change out of your pocket, you are not alone. Americans
spend more than $115 billion each year on fuel and electricity for their
homes. On the average, heating and cooling (space conditioning) account for
about 45% of the energy a home uses. Water heating consumes about 14%, and
appliances and other sources consume about 41%. Though energy use varies
among homes, there are many ways to lower your energy bills.

Superwindows Viceroy's Superwindows are designed for maximum energy efficiency to ensure lower heating and cooling bills.
Surface Transportation Policy Project The goal of Surface Transportation Policy Project is to ensure that transportation policy and investments help conserve energy, protect environmental and aesthetic quality, strengthen the economy, promote social equity, and make communities more livable. We emphasize the needs of people, rather than vehicles, in assuring access to jobs, services, and recreational opportunities.
The Alliance to Save Energy The Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit organization founded in 1977 to promote the efficient use of energy to strengthen America's economy, improve the environment, make housing more affordable and move the country toward energy independence. The Alliance to Save Energy's unique board of directors is comprised of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders. By bringing together such a diverse group with a common goal, the Alliance is highly effective in ensuring that the benefits of energy efficiency are understood and pursued by key decisionmakers at the federal, state and local levels.
