Energy Service Associates, Inc. ESA is a Boulder, Colorado company committed to resource efficiency, which we define as the most effective use of resources to accomplish the tasks at hand without compromising user comfort or task effectiveness. Too often energy conservation has been promoted at the expense of building occupants and operations, which often results in a "freeze in the dark" approach. Energy may be saved, but system design, utility operation and occupant comfort are sacrificed. ESA designs and implements resource programs which utilize state-of-the-art technologies to balance resource efficiency with utility costs. As a result, user comfort and task effectiveness are dramatically enhanced. Successful resource programs must not only save utility costs, but ensure occupants are comfortable and resources are used efficiently.
Energy Systems Laboratory The Energy Systems Laboratory is the research focus for studies of energy conservation and HVAC within the Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) in the Texas A&M University System. One of its principal projects is the Texas LoanSTAR Program, a State Energy Conservation Office program designed to "Save Taxes And Resources" by monitoring energy use and recommending energy-saving retrofits.
Energy User News 1996 Utility Incentive Guide The 1996 version of our Utility Incentive Guide contains 178 entries. This guide includes programs aimed at nonresidential customers of U.S. and Canadian gas and electric utilities. This guide was developed for the April issue of Energy User News from respondants to an EUN questionnaire. Entries include the name of a utility, its address and phone number, the regions it serves, and equipment, conditions, and rates.
Energy Wise Options for State and Local Governments For the next decade energy will remain an unavoidable public issue. Energy, so essential for sustaining economic inextricably linked to many of our nation's most pressing problems: trade, job creation, economic development, national security, environmental pollution, and public health and well-being.

Environmental Benefits
from District Heating in the Nordic Capitals
The increase of district heating
has resulted in a better environment in the Nordic capitals and greater
efficiency in fuel utilisation. If you compare the development of district
heating in the Nordic capitals with the decreasing pollution of sulphur dioxide,
nitrogen oxide and particles, the quality of the air has constantly improved.
The content of sulphur dioxide in the air, which mainly emanates from energy
production, has for example greatly diminished because of the increased use
of district heating and new technologies In the heat (and power) production.
EPA Energy Star Buildings EPA's new Energy Star Buildings program is a voluntary energy efficiency program for U.S. commercial buildings. Expanding on the successful Green Lights program, this initiative focuses on profitable investment opportunities available in most buildings, using proven technologies. A central component of the program is a step-by-step implementation strategy that takes advantage of system interactions, enabling building owners to achieve additional energy savings while lowering capital expenditures.
EPA Green Lights Program The U.S. EPA' s Green Lights program is a breath of fresh air for the nation's environmental health and economic growth. By encouraging the widespread use of energy-efficient lighting, Green Lights is proving that profitability and environmental protection can go hand in hand. Green Lights is an innovative, voluntary pollution prevention program sponsored by EPA. By joining Green Lights, partners agree to install energy efficient lighting where profitable as long as lighting quality is maintained or improved. Federal partners have until 2005 to complete upgrades.
E SOURCE E SOURCE is a membership-based information service company, providing timely, practical, and unbiased information on energy end-use technologies and related application and market issues. E SOURCE's clients include more than 300 utilities, energy users, government agencies, energy service companies, manufacturers, consultants, research institutions, and other organizations in over two dozen countries worldwide.
Export Council for Energy Efficiency (ECEE) The Export Council for Energy Efficiency's (ECEE) mission is to increase exports of US manufacturers energy efficiency products, services, and technologies through coordinated market conditioning and project implementation activities, leveraging federal government programs through the Committee on Energy Efficiency Commerce and Trade (COEECT).

Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) Website FEMP's mission is to reduce the cost of government by advancing energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of solar and other renewable energy. FEMP accomplishes its mission by creating partnerships, leveraging resources, transferring technology, and providing training and support. Collectively, FEMP and Federal agencies will Save Billions from Federal Energy Management.

Finessing Efficiency Electrical distributors must step carefully, but boldly, to stay competitive amid changes in the energy conservation market. The dynamics of the energy conservation market are shifting before our eyes. Utility rebate programs, which often force-fed demand for efficient electrical products, are going away. As utilities move away from rebates, and customers' expectations change accordingly, new opportunities are arising, as are new competitors, including the utilities themselves.
Florida Alternative Energy Corporation Florida Alternative Energy Corportation (Flaenergy) is a small multidisciplinary Florida corporation specializing in providing energy related services and products to business, industry and governmental organizations. Flaenergy specializes in energy conservation and alternative energy project design, development, evaluation, and implementation for commercial, institutional, and/or industrial facilities. Flaenergy provides the professional expertise, technological tools and economic analysis appropriate to each specific situation to ensure successful outcomes.

FTI/DOE FTI/DOE provides one of the most comprehensive tools for performing the complex process of dynamic energy analysis. This software enables architects and engineers to perform a comprehensive analysis of dynamic heating and cooling loads, simulation of heating and cooling distribution systems, modeling of equipment supplying the required energy, and calculation of the life-cycle costs of owning and operating energy systems for buildings. The program can simulate hour-by-hour performance for buildings ranging in size from a small one room residence to a large multi-storied structure for each of the 8760 hours in a year.

Geothermal
District Cooling in Vicenza, Italy
The discovery of a large low-enthalpy
geothermal water reservoir under the city of Vicenza (110,000 peolple) in
northern Italy, through an oil prospecting venture, opened up the opportunity
to install a district heating system with low energy consumption. Although
the geothermal water is at 67°C, this is insufficient for heating the
city's commercial and residential buildings using their existing high-temperature
heat distribution systems. Heat pumps are therefore used to obtain optimum
useful heat energy from the geothermal source. Experience so far suggests
that the system can reduce energy consumption by up to 60%, or 3885 Mwh/year.
GoodCents Homes The GoodCents program is the oldest and largest energy-efficient home certification program in the country. It was developed in 1976 to encourage builders to construct energy-efficient homes. Since that time, more than 750,000 GoodCents homes have been built across the country. And that number continues to grow by 60,000 a year.

Graywater Heat Recovery System: GFX GFX is a new plumbing product developed under a U.S. Department of Energy Grant and engineered to recycle the enormous amount of energy carried by hot drain water from residential showers and sinks -- energy equivalent to "2 billion gallons of oil" wasted every year, according to their evaluation. Adding U.S. nonresidential, commercial, industrial, state and federal applications increases potential savings to over 7 billion equivalent gallons of oil per year.
Green Building Information Council The Green Building Information Council is a Canadian non-profit organization whose mission is to disseminate information about energy and environmental issues in the building sector. GBIC itself is a small organization with extensive international links, and through this site it brings you a broad range of information from other sources and organizations around the world, all of which are separately identified.
